XBALL FORMAT AND DIVISIONS

The Premier Division is the highest level of competition at the WCPPL, played in the fast-paced Mercy 5 X-Ball format. This division features a mix of current professional players and rising pro talent, making it one of the most competitive battlegrounds in regional paintball.

X-Ball is the premier competitive format in paintball — and it's at the heart of the West Coast Paintball Players League (WCPPL).

In X-Ball, two teams of five players face off in a timed match made up of multiple points. Each point begins with both teams breaking out at the buzzer, racing to eliminate the opposition and hang the flag. When a team wins a point, the game resets quickly and the next point begins.

At the WCPPL, X-Ball matches are played under a mercy rule format — meaning the game ends early if one team reaches a designated lead (e.g., 4- or 5-point spread), keeping games fast and competitive. Matches also have a set time limit, so teams must balance aggression with smart play.

This format rewards deep rosters, tight communication, and endurance. It's high-speed, high-pressure paintball — exactly what WCPPL is known for.

Division 3 at the WCPPL is played in the Mercy 4 X-Ball format and stands as one of the most highly competitive divisions in the league. With a deep player pool, fast-paced matches, and tactical gameplay, D3 draws a large number of teams from both the West Coast and East Coast.
